Norwegian rental company Sørby Utleie has strengthened its fleet with the addition of new Leguan spider lifts, starting with two 13-meter 135 models and one 20-meter 195 model.

Key Features of the New Equipment
The Leguan 135 features a single riser, three-section boom, and an articulating jib, offering a working height of 13.4 meters and a maximum outreach of 7.1 meters (with 120kg in the platform) or 6.6 meters (at full 250kg capacity). Compact when stowed (4.55×1.33m, height<2m) and weighing 1,650 kg, it runs on both petrol and electric power.
The 135s have their own trailers
The larger Leguan195 shares the same lifting configuration but reaches 19.7 meters in height, with a 9.9-meter outreach (120kg) or 9 meters (250kg). Its stowed dimensions are 5.29×1.33m, with a total weight of 2,700kg.
Fleet Modernization Strategy
Sørby Utleie plans to replace a significant portion of its older spider lifts with the new Leguan models. The company currently operates a 700-unit aerial lift fleet, including boom lifts, scissor lifts, trailer lifts, mast booms, truck mounts, and telehandlers, alongside general rental equipment such as cabins.

Immediate Deployment & User Feedback
The first Leguan195 was immediately put to work on a lighting upgrade project for an illuminated trail in Askim, in collaboration with One Elektrotjenesten.
Joacim Taraldrud Tangnes from One Elektrotjenesten praised the machine's auto-leveling function, saying:
"The best feature is not having to manually adjust the lift before starting work. The 'home' button also makes it quick and easy to return to stowed position."
Why Leguan?
Martin Authen, General Manager of Sørby Utleie, explained the decision:
"We needed to modernize our specialized lifts, and for all-terrain tracked models, we chose Leguan. They are easy to use, environmentally friendly, and have a consistent user interface across models. This familiarity reduces downtime, simplifies training, and improves operator satisfaction. Plus, their versatility in rough terrain allows access where other machines can't go."
From Carpentry to Rental Success
Sørby Utleie's origins trace back to 2005, when twin brothers Erik and Lars Sørby founded a timber and carpentry business. Their rental journey began in 2007 after purchasing a small tracked lift at a trade fair—initially for internal use, but demand quickly turned it into a full-time rental business.
By 2013, they rebranded as Sørby Utleie and expanded across four locations (Spydeberg/Tomter, Sarpsborg/Grålum, Vestby, and Halden) through strategic acquisitions. Most recently, they integrated Fosby Lift's fleet, further strengthening their presence southeast of oslo.
